The D.A.R.E. Story

D.A.R.E.'s strategy was developed in 1983 in Los Angeles, California as a cooperative effort between the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District. Since its inception, the D.A.R.E. program has expanded to all fifty states in the U.S. and 52 countries around the world.

D.A.R.E. targets fifth and seventh grade children with the use of law enforcement officers visiting our schools. D.A.R.E. not only helps to inform children about the dangers of drug abuse, but it helps to build positive attitudes towards our police and builds greater respect for the law.

D.A.R.E. Mission Statement:

Provide children with the information and skills they need to live drug and violence free lives. Establish positive relationships between law enforcement and students, teachers, parents and other members of the community.
